Ed’s Tavern in Lakewood Ranch will be celebrating National Beer Day on April 7. The date celebrates the Cullen-Harrison Act prior to the end of Prohibition. The Act which went into effect on April 7, 1933 permitted the public to purchase beer containing no more than 4.05 percent alcohol by volume or 3.2 percent by weight. Prohibition would not end until December 5, 1933.

Run in the Beer Belly 5k on Main Street!

The second annual Beer Belly 5K is here! This 5K race benefits Meals on Wheels of Manatee. Whether you are running, supporting a runner, or just want to watch the race, you can attend this event at 9 a.m. this Saturday, March 24. Same day registration is available Saturday morning starting at 7:30 a.m., but shirt sizes aren’t guaranteed after the pre-registration. The Beer Belly 5K will have local craft beers throughout the course, as well as local food vendors, prizes and giveaways.
