Knocking Back A Cold One On International Beer Day
Benjamin Franklin once described the beer as “Proof that God wants us to be happy.” While you won’t find this phrase embedded within the bill of rights, a ringing endorsement from one of the founding fathers is another reason to enjoy a cold beverage on August 6th. Why this day in particular? Because it happens to coincide with International Beer Day. While you might not need a reason to engage in merriment and partake in a libation on any given day, there’s something to be said for a celebration dedicated to the beverage of the working class.
Made-up holidays get added to the calendar every year—most of which won’t result in a day off or bonus pay. You’re a hard worker and deserve a break from the monotony of the day-to-day rat race. So, why not have a holiday that you can all look forward to with childlike anticipation? When we were children, summer vacation was all we could think about while we toiled in the classroom. Adulthood should never be without its advantages and summer joys. The first Friday in August is more than ideal for such an occasion. The summer sun beats down upon us with relentlessness, so wipe the sweat from your brow and forget your worries in a sea of hops and barley.
Unlike holidays that have traditions that are stressful and time-consuming, International Beer Day is an event that’s left entirely up to you in terms of celebrating. With Covid restrictions being lifted and life returning to a somewhat familiar state of normalcy, there’s no reason not to go down to your favorite watering hole with your closest friends. If you feel social interaction is overrated and prefer to stay indoors, by all means, do so. This is one holiday where the emphasis is on what you like while having a cold beverage in your grasp. Plot your course and set sail for refreshment.
While there’s certainly a great amount of encouragement to celebrate, it should be noted that moderation and responsibility are just as important as your favorite six pack. In the United States, the legal drinking age is 21, and fake IDs are easier to spot than a weasel in a hen house. Know your limitations and keep in mind that there can always be too much of a good thing. Most importantly, getting behind the wheel of a vehicle with any level of intoxication is one of the worst mistakes you could possibly make. If you’re going to be out and about, have a designated driver handy or take a rideshare home. This will be the best decision you make.
Be safe, be good, and raise your glasses high. This is one holiday you deserve. We would love to have you over at Ed’s Tavern. You can find us at 1079 Rodeo Dr, Bradenton, FL, or call us on (941)907-0400.
